This July sees an exciting opportunity for Irish Women to try a new and exciting team sport. The Australian Rules Football League of Ireland(ARFLI) would like to hear from women who are interested in joining Ireland’s first Women’s Aussie Rules team.
For Women who would like to make new friends, learn new skills, get fit and have the chance to travel in good company; this could be just what you’ve been waiting for. Women’s Aussie Rules is a safe and sociable sport and as the the team is just starting all players would be joining with the same level of experience. Aussie Rules involves communication, teamwork and a great deal of running so it’s good for gaining a high level of fitness. The skills of the game are easily learned too and it affords all of the participants to feel part of a wider community while experiencing a little piece of Australia right here in Ireland.
A team is being put together by the league to represent Ireland in a game against an Italian team in Milan in October, with the hope being that next year a competition will begin in Ireland followed by trips to the USA and Canada.
Aussie Rules is a very inexpensive sport to play; footballs and training equipment are supplied by ARFLI as is coaching, so if it sounds like something you’d like to try or if you think you know someone who’d like it you can contact the league by logging on to www.arfli.com or by e-mailing womensfooty@arfli.com
