'Introduction to Golf training days'

Golf

My Name is Mary C Daly and I am involved in the ILGU Women in Sport Programme. I'd like to take this opportunity to share my golf story with you....

I participated in the 2006/07 'Introduction to Golf training days' which were held at the Newtown Driving Range in Tramore Co. Waterford, with PGA Pro's Deirdre Brennan and Harry Ewing.

Not having played golf before it Was a great opportunity to try the game, I really enjoyed the whole experience and joined Tramore G.C. in March 2007. I was fortunate enough to join with four other beginners, so every Thursday morning we met up and played a few holes.

When I was confident enough, I played in a few competitions and by the end of 2007 I was down from a 36 handicap to 34. This year got off to a great start, I got to play on the Challenge Cup team and also the Mixed Foursomes team.

The big event for me this year was winning Lady Captain's(Marian Cantwell) Prize in Tramore with 44pt. From there, Marian and I qualified to play in Lady Captain's Golf Classic in Dundrum Co. Tipperary where we came second and went on to play in the National Final in Luttrellstown Castle in October.

During the summer of 2008 I featured in the prizes in local competitions. To finish of a fantastic year, I won Lady Master Golfer 2008. I'm now playing off 22, dropping 12 shots this year.

So a big thank you to all concerned in the ILGU and the Sports Council, Keep up the good work.
