Code Ethics

Code of Ethics Logo

The Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport is a guide for leaders working with young people in sport and an outline for sports organisations as to the type of issues, which need to be discussed and addressed to provide the safest and most enjoyable environment for young people.

In order for children's sport to be successful there is a need for all adults to accept the role and responsibilities that their involvement in children's sport brings.

Sports Leaders play a vital role in children's sport. They often do so in their own free time and are providing an important social service within the sporting community. The future of our sports system depends on the continued involvement of such dedicated people. Putting the needs of the child first and focusing on the participant's enjoyment of sport will allow leaders to create and maintain a fun, safe and enjoyable environment for all. In this environment children will learn that standards of behaviour are as important as standards of performance.

This child centred principle should govern all interactions between leaders and participants so that young people's experience of sport can be a positive one. The Code offers recommendations for Sports Leaders, parents/guardians and young people on good practice, which help to ensure that the values outlined in the Code are maintained.
